Oaks, support 534 species of lepidoptera (butterfly and moth) caterpillars– more than any other native tree or plant. Each day, an estimated 6,000 acres of open space are converted to other uses in the U.S. Expanding urban and suburban areas often result in a loss of forests, grasslands, and other natural areas.
Unbelievably, more than 200,000 acres of rainforest are burned every day. That is more than 150 acres lost every minute of every day, and 78 million acres lost every year! More than 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest is already gone, and much more is severely threatened as the destruction continues. According to the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE), satellite data has shown an 84 per cent increase in fires compared to the same period in 2018. The space agency reports its satellite data has detected more than 72,000 fires since January 2019.

Pesticides are poisons and, unfortunately, they can harm more than just the “pests” at which they are targeted. They are toxic, and exposure to pesticides can cause a number of health effects. They are linked to a range of serious illnesses and diseases from respiratory problems, reproductive, neurological and cancer. Long term effects are still not known and evidence of it affecting DNA that is passed down thru generations, mutating genes for years to come.
